European Universities Rowing Championship 2025 Ends with Celebration in Bydgoszcz
The European Universities Rowing Championship 2025 officially came to an end on September 21 with a Closing Ceremony at the Brdyujście Regatta Course in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The final act of the Championship gathered rowing enthusiasts in one joyful celebration of sporting excellence, fair play, and international friendship. Over 500 participants representing 77 universities from 20 countries competed across three days of racing, turning Bydgoszcz into the rowing capital of European university sport.

Polish dominance on the water
This year’s edition brought success for Polish universities, which claimed the highest medal tally of the Championships – 11 medals, including as many as 6 golds. Right behind Poland finished Portugal with 5 gold medals and 7 medals overall, while France secured 2 gold medals and 8 in total.
For this remarkable achievement, the Best NUSA Award was presented to the Polish University Sports Association.
Celebrating champions and achievements
The medals and awards were presented by representatives of the European University Sports Association: Felipe Dos Santos (EUSA Honorary Member), Lionel Girard (Technical Delegate for Rowing – EUSA), Liam Smith (EUSA Director Sports Events), Julija Furcic (EUSA Results Supervisor) and Agata Zieleniewska (Assistant Technical Delegate).
They were joined by distinguished guests from the University of Kazimierz Wielki and the City of Bydgoszcz, as well as the Polish Rowing Federation. Among them: Prof. Bernard Mendlik, Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University; Monika Matowska, Chancellor of Kazimierz Wielki University; Mirosława Szark-Eckardt, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education; Mirosław Kozłowicz, Deputy Mayor of Bydgoszcz; Katarzyna Domańska, President of the Organising Committee and Anna Tataruch, Vice President of the Polish Rowing Association. Their presence underlined the importance of the event for both the academic and sporting communities of Poland.

Competition across 19 categories
Athletes competed in 19 boat classes, including one mixed event, providing excitement until the very last races. Fans witnessed stunning comebacks, new rivalries, and memorable victories.

The full medal standings once again reflected the diversity and strength of European university rowing, with podium places shared between universities from across the continent.
More than just rowing
The Championship was not only about racing. Over 50 dedicated volunteers, both local and international students, ensured that the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Beyond the regatta course, participants and visitors enjoyed cultural side events, Polish hospitality, and the vibrant atmosphere that filled the city during the Championship. Bydgoszcz showcased itself as a city of sport and culture, leaving athletes and guests with lasting memories.

Passing the flag to Zagreb
The Closing Ceremony concluded with the symbolic handover of the EUSA flag to the next host. Representing the University of Zagreb, Ms. Gabrijela Gaiser proudly accepted the flag, officially confirming Zagreb, Croatia, as the host city of the European Universities Rowing Championship 2026.
